ATTENTION....this dog is located in Yakima, WA and is a courtesy post for Lifesavers Rescue. This is not a Collar of Hope foster dog.
You HAVE to meet KODY. He is an extraordinary little guy. KODY is about 10 months to 1 year of age. He weighs 18# and I am guessing he is a mixture of Pug and Jack Russell
KODY is friendly, loves everyone, enjoys all the other dogs, and LOVES sitting on laps and being petted, hugged and told what a good boy he is. His favorite thing of all is to go for walks. He is so good on a leash and with the security of knowing that leash is there and I am guiding him with it, he can stretch his legs and run around and 'see' the world through his nose. I love walking him.
KODY is very intelligent, handsome and just the right size for a fun companion. He is comfortable being outside on a warm day and sniffing and sniffing everything he can and likes being inside and just chilling out. He is a gentle and pleasant companion and he greets everyone who comes but they all pass him by because "GOOD GRIEF...WHO WOULD WANT A BLIND DOG", I am told.
KODY is mostly blind but he has some very limited vision as he doesn't bump into EVERYTHING..... and of course does better during the day. Kody is the best dog to sleep and cuddle with.
He uses the pet doors to go in and out to potty.
I have had KODY now for 6 months and he is just amazing. He goes with me everywhere outside, with no leash, and does so well. He follows behind and learns where things are quickly. He plays with the other dogs...even though at times by accident...as he just walks into them and thinks they are wanting him to play. Him being sight impaired does NOT restrict this awesome little dog.
KODY needs a human partner who will take him for daily walks. Because he is seeing impaired he cannot run and exercise alone like all dogs do at his age and he is too young a dog to not get some activity. So if you are interested in him be sure you will go for walks. He needs to be able to stretch and exercise safely and hopefully there might be another dog in your home who would like a playmate. KODY is a great playmate for another dog and does so well with other dogs.
He sits on my lap and tells me that he doesn't mind not having much vision and that I don't need to keep looking at him with a sad sad face. He says, remember I have great hearing, taste and touch. KODY is an intelligent dog, as the Jack Russell's are, he is a tough little guy and never whimpers or cries during his daily bumps with objects. I am SO proud of him.
I know KODY is a happy and well balanced little dog and why he was a stray, left to try and find safety and a kind hand, on the streets is far beyond what I can comprehend.
A secure, fenced yard is MANDATORY for his safety. A home inspection will be done and references called.
Because of the blindness, there shouldn't be children in the home under 10 years of age. Please understand this. I can only tell you that he would make you a great, loving and loyal companion.
KODY is now neutered and he is current on vaccines and micro-chipped. There is a $150 adoption donation for KODY.
