About Gwen

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes
GWEN's BEEN ADOPTED INTO A WONDERFUL FAMILY!!! We are now accepting application for Gwen. She is 4 years old, deaf and has some limited vision but she can see. Please read this bio in full (there is a see more button) to find out all about her and what she's gone through before applying. It will take a special person to adopt such a wonderful and special girl. Someone that will have devoted time initially to acclimate her to a new enviornment and routine. Her new home will have to be willing to share the furniture with her too. It took her 3 weeks when she arrived in foster care to fully acclimate. She will return the kindeness, devotion and love 10 fold! Her new family should have giant breed, preferably Great Dane, experience, special needs dog experience, a secure and safe enviornment for her and lots of love and commitment to offer her. Gwen came to us after living all 4 years of her life in a backyard and had never been to a vet. We were told she was deaf but there were several other medical needs this dear girl was in desperate need of immediate vet care for. Though she lived in a manner that no Great Dane should have to live in, let alone a special needs girl, she is amazing and so resiliant! She is sweet, loyal, loving and she just adores puppies and cats especially. She does great with dogs after a slow introduction and she realizes they are not a threat to her and will be very playful with them even :) She had several pressure sores from existing on hard surfaces when she arrived that have or are healing nicely. She is loving soft padded sleeping and lounging arrangements now! If you don't like sharing your furniture with a dog, she isn't a good choice for you. She was successfully spayed and at that time, mammary lumps were noticed. We had a biopsy done and subsequent surgery to remove that mammary gland. The test results came back positive for mammary cancer. The Vet team believes this was contained and only in the one mammary gland. She has healed nicely from both her spay and mammary removal. She was seen by a canine optomologist to have her vision impaired eyes checked out. The conclusion was that she does not have perfect vision but she can see. It's better in one eye than the other. They do not recommend surgery though and feel she will be fine as she is and going in surgically could make things worst instead of better. Her care and treatment is not without a hefty cost but she is worth every penny and deserves to have the chance for a well cared for, happy rest of her life! She now has a clean bill of health and she has a gorgeous coat! Gwen is spayed, current on vaccines including rabies, parasite treated/prevented and microchipped. Adoption fee of $200 applies.
