ATTENTION.... this dog is located in Yakima, WA and is a courtesy post for Lifesavers Rescue. This is not a Collar of Hope foster dog.
This oh so friendly, gentle dog is DEXTER. He was a westie badly in need of a good bath and grooming when he arrived and you can see how handsome he is now that he's all cleaned up! DEXTER turned 3 yrs old in May and is 21 pounds.
DEXTER is a nice boy that was unfortunately kept in a an outside kennel by day with his sister and another dog, let out to play in the yard for a few minutes and then crated inside for the night. NOT much of a life for a loving and friendly little dog.
DEXTER was playing with 2 small children when he was picked up and he was loving the attention they showed him. He IS a terrier and does have energy and needs a family where someone will take him on for almost daily walks. A well exercised dog is a well balanced dog.
DEXTER may need some leash training and to attend dog obedience classes as this would really make him a perfect gentleman. These westies are such friendly, happy dogs and make great companions and they don't shed. DEXTER think the best activity is to sit next to us an and be able to touch us and for us to be able to pet him and rub his belly.
DEXTER was raised with 2 other dogs and I don't know about cats. A secure, fenced yard is MANDATORY as terriers are intelligent and like to go investigating. I feel Dexter would love to be the only dog in the home... at least for a while since he has never been able to have a one on one relationship with a human and he doesn't interact with the other dogs in foster care.
There is a $200 adoption donation for DEXTER. He is neutered, current with vaccines and micro chipped.
